“Carlisle Leisure (CLL) has already reopened one local school’s swimming pool and has plans to reopen another in September 2005, in order to benefit the local community.
In March 2005, in partnership with Morton School and Cumbria County Council (CCC), CLL got involved in a project to reopen and refurbish the school’s swimming pool that had been closed for four years. The pool had been closed because the school was unable to afford its upkeep.
CCC had provided the school with a grant of £130,000 to enable it to refurbish the pool with improvements such as a new water treatment system and water pumps.
The pool will be available for both the school and the local community to use.
In September this year, CCL plans to reopen Trinity School’s swimming pool.
Trinity School has also obtained a government grant of around £1m, which is enabling it to build a new gym, with health & fitness facilities, and also a new reception area, as well as refurbishing the pool.”
