A.M.C.R CHANNEL SWIM APPEAL MID-WINTER GATHERING

IN HACKNEY

A chance to see video footage of the September 2008 Channel relay swim in aid of Afghan Mother and Child Rescue.

Six women from the Serpentine Swimming Club made it across a rather angry (and busy) stretch of water in a record-breaking (long) time of 23 hours 16 minutes in mid- September.

The oldest of them, Clare (64!), lives in Hackney and swims at London Fields, (and King’s Hall and York Hall and Clissold Baths and Hampstead Ponds and…really anywhere she gets a chance!)

You will have a chance to hear from other participants in the swim as well as the charity organisers about the work of building maternity units and small hospitals in Afghanistan.

You may also be able to meet authors of books about swimming who will communicate their enthusiasm for wild (and tamed!) swimming.

Thursday, 8 January, 2009
