LFUG and Swimathon 2009

Dear Swimmers

This year our lido is taking part in the Swimathon, an annual charity event challenging swimmers to swim a sponsored distance of up to 5K (100 lengths of the lido).

Now in its 23rd year, Swimathon has raised over £32 million for various charities – this year the main charity is Marie Curie Cancer Care   www.mariecurie.org.uk which will benefit from 70% of the money raised with the Swimathon Foundation www.swimathonfoundation.org.uk receiving the remaining 30%.

Swimathon 2009 will take place in over 500 pools across the UK and this is the first year that London Fields Lido has participated. Each pool will host a number of sessions between 16 and 19 April 2009. The timetable for our pool is below:

  • Date: Friday 17 April 2009, Start: 08.00, Duration:2 hours, Spaces Left: 61
  • Date: Friday 17 April 2009, Start: 15.00 Duration: 2 hours Spaces Left: 32
  • Date: Sunday 19 April 2009, Start: 08.00 Duration: 2 hours, Spaces Left: 24

Information and entry forms are available at the Lido reception desk or visit www.swimathon.org where you can enter online.
The challenge can be taken up by individual swimmers or you can enter as a team of two or more people. London Fields Lido has been chosen as a Gala pool (information about that at reception!) and I know that Ben and the lido staff are keen to make it a success.

Good luck to everyone who enters.

Josephine
