The Hackney Youth Sports Awards take place on Monday 12 October 2009 at the Hackney Empire. Doors open at 6.30pm and the event starts at 7pm. All our athletes who took part in the London Youth Games and Mini Games diving, swimming and water polo should have received invitations to attend from Sarah Davies at [...] “Congratulations to the London Borough of Hackney for being awarded beacon status on the theme ‘Olympic Games and Paralympics legacy – using the opportunity of hosting the Games to encourage communities to be more active’” (Via Latest News Gongs for award winning councils: .) It would have been far better to offer schools free swimming lessons but that would have really hit the bottom line while being SO effective. “From April 1, thousands of residents can swim for free at Hackney’s leisure centres thanks to a new scheme. Youngsters aged 18 and under already have access to free swimming during school [...] The Hackney Society are planning a bike tour of all the Hackney Pools in June – including a swim where possible.
