Duke of Edinburgh Award
Verification: Clissold Swimming Club’s approach
Guidelines for verification
- Clissold Swimming Club is fully supportive of swimmers who, with school, are completing their DofE award
- The club will deal equitably and truthfully with every athlete
- In order to have a coach sign off a swimmers DofE logbook it will be necessary for the swimmer to register with the club outlining the activity upon which they are engaged and the objectives that they will strive to achieve
- Objective and target-setting must be carried out at the beginning of the activity
- Objectives will not be set and verified retrospectively
- Upon completion the logbook will be signed off against those objectives, their attainment, consistent attendance and evidence of the pursuit of those goals
- In this way the club will ensure that all swimmers will be treated equally and that the club will maintain a reputation for full and verifiable completion of DofE registration and validation
- Coaches are encouraged to decline to sign-off sheets for which they have not had sight of the original objective sheet, proof of regular attendance or evidence of attainment of pre specified goals
suitable activities, goals and targets: suggestions

- improving a PB by an agreed percentage or time
- promotion to a higher squad
- promotion to water polo team

- Swimmers may also combine GCSE and A-Level course-work with training and coaching to produce a body of written-work for verification.
