Congratulations to all those who swam in Sunday’s gala. As you know we came second with 127 points, just 7 points behind the winners, Leyton, and 23 points ahead of the 3rd placed team, Eltham. This was our first ever gala in this league, so it was a great start to the season.
There were 9 first places, 6 second places and 6 third places, from a total of 32 events.
First places went to Max in both 13 & under 50m backstroke and in 50m breaststroke, Inez (swimming up 1 age group) in 13 & under breaststroke, Billie & James, both in 12 & under 50m breaststroke, Joanna in 50m fly (Joanna was swimming up 2 age groups to win this race) and Thomas in 11 & under 25m freestyle.
Both the 13 & under mixed relay team (Inez, Max, Billie, Thomas, Joanna, Luke, Demera & Anthony) and the 12 & under mixed relay team (Billie, James, Adrene, Gaspar, Inez, Harry, Demera & Luke) won their 4 x 50m freestyle relays.
Demera came 2nd in 13 & under 50m fly, while Luke came second in 13 & under 50m freestyle. Both were swimming up an age group in these events. Luke also came second in 12 & under 50m backstroke. Carlotta came second in 11 & under 25m backstroke and Ethan came 2nd in 11 & under 25m breaststroke. The all age mixed relay squad of Carlotta, Max, Grace, Rene, Eve, Thomas, Demera and Anthony came 2nd in the final relay of the gala.
There were 3rd places for Anthony in 13 & under 50m fly, Billie (swimming up 1 age group) in 13 & under 50m freestyle, James in 12 & under 50m fly and Melika in both 12 & under 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
The 11 & under mixed relay team (Sakinah, Thomas, Eve, Harry, Verena, Ethan, Carlotta & Adam) came 3rd in their 4 x 25m freestyle relay.
Most swimmers improved their PBs in their individual swims:
- 50m freestyle: Melika, Gaspar
- 25m freestyle: Eve, Thomas
- 50m breaststroke: Inez, Billie, James
- 25m breastrsoke: Eve, Ethan
- 50m backstroke: Max, Luke
- 25m backstroke: Carlotta, Harry
- 50m fly: Anthony, Joanna, James
- 25m fly: Sakinah, Adam
In addition, Inez achieved a new 50m freestyle PB, Sakinah and Arthur new 25m freestyle PBs and Grace and Rene new 25m backstroke PBs from their 1st leg relay swims.
Adam set a new U12 boys club record with his 25m fly swim.
Well done to everyone who took part, especially Eve, Verena, Melika and Sam, who were all swimming in their first gala as part of a Clissold SC team.
