Despite sending out a small team to this gala, we came 2nd overall, which was a fantastic result. At one point we were trailing behind, so we came back from last place to second. Well done to all the swimmers for doing so well, and in particular the 10 and under boys who also had to swim up age groups in individual swims. Lots of good placings and PB times. Results Sheet here
Thanks to Mark, James Kinch, Faziah, Tina and Sarah for helping on the night

This gala was held in an 33.3 m pool, which is always difficult for us as we don’t train in a pool of that size, so it’s difficult for us to predict times, which in a Graded gala is important – because as you know it’s not always the first one to get to the end of the pool who wins! (Because of the time limitations on the races). However – this is a problem for coaches more than swimmers – and everyone swam really well with the result that we came 3rd out of 5 teams – a really good result.
Many thanks to Mark and Chelsea for attending the gala on behalf of the club, David for time keeping, Minna for doing splits and in particular Grace who whipped the swimmers as well as swimming herself.
Lots of PB’s for swimmers – all of these are in Red on the results sheets, and the blue ones are unofficial personal best times – taken from relays, so can’t be completely accurate.
We had a couple of time faults – i.e. too fast for this gala!
Boys 10 and under freestyle relay, Huxley – Freestyle and Mixed girls and boys freestyle team relay at the end.
First places went to:-
Aaron – backstroke, Boys 10 and under Medley Relay, Alex – Backstroke and Sammy – Breaststroke.

We came 5th in this gala of 8 teams. This was a fantastic result – once again an improvement on
last year. Overall two thirds of our times were quicker than last year’s, half of our placings were
higher, and quite a few personal best times were obtained – which is great after the summer holidays when few swimmers have been training. WELL DONE!! We were missing a few swimmers from the Arena squad, so we should do even better at the next gala when we have all swimmers, and you’ve been back in the pool for a while.
We were swimming against Edmonton Phoenix and Anaconda who are much bigger clubs than us and who were quite far ahead, but the other 5 teams were much closer together.
Thanks to Helena, Mark, Simon and Grace for their help poolside, and Rachael and Karen for doing the splits.
We didn’t get any first places but Thomas gained 2 second places, Eve and Phoebe one each, and the boys under 16 relay team also came 2nd in both of their relays.
Daniel, Bella, Phoebe and James all got third places, along with the Boys under 14 medley and freestyle relay and the girls under 12 medley relay.
All in all a very good result, with many swimmers showing real promise.

Friday, 30th July marks the last day of normal session times and the start of CSC’s summer schedule. We will be swimming on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout August from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm with the exception of the Bank Holiday on Monday 30th. Normal session time will recommence on Thursday 2nd September. The Hackney Wednesday evening sessions will restart on Wednesday, 1st September.
Have a Great Summer Everyone!
A reminder that this Friday, 16 July, CSC is holding its Annual Summer Party to celebrate our achievements this year and have some fun before the holiday season. As well as a brief awards ceremony there will be fine food available, a bar and a raffle with some fantastic prizes. The Party starts at 7pm, which leaves you just enough time for a one-hour session in the pool at Clissold which begins at 5.30 pm. Hope to see you all there.

This gala was a real challenge as 7 swimmers didn’t turn up on the day who were expected. This meant that Sarah had to change much of the team sheet on poolside! We came 4th in the end, and didn’t have enough girls to enter the final relay, and our boys were just too fast so got upgraded in loads of races. Well done to all those who did come though – as usual there were some good swims and lots of PB’s.
